L.M. Golden Jubilee Closing Ceremony
The Golden Jubilee closing ceremony of the Kerala Labor Movement, the workers’ organization under the Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC), was held at Ernakulam Town Hall. The ceremony was inaugurated by P. Rajeev, the Minister for the State Industries Department. The meeting, presided over by KLM State President Babu Thannikkod, also featured a benediction speech by Bishop Silvester Ponnimuthan, Chairman of the KCBC Labor Commission.
The opening of the Family Care Scheme, which is being implemented by KLM, was done by Vice-Chairman Bishop George Mathathikandathil. Various awards were distributed by Bishop Jose Porunnedam. The amount raised by KLM for the Wayanad relief activities was handed over by Bishop Jose Porunnedam to the state officials.
Antony Selvanathan, the National President of Workers India, was the chief guest. State Director Fr. Prasad Kattathipparambil gave the introductory speech. Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden, Ernakulam MLA T.J. Vinod, Chairperson of the Kerala Textile Workers Welfare Fund Board Elizabeth Azizi, former MP Thampan Thomas, Joseph Jude, Sebastian Palampurambil, the National Vice President of WIF, former National President Joyi Gothuruth, KLM General Secretary Jose Mathew, Vice Presidents Adv. Thomas Mathew, Shine C, Women’s Forum President Molly Jobi, Secretary Betsy Blaise, State Treasurer Dixon Manik, former State President Shaju Antony, and others also delivered speeches.
The closing ceremony was inaugurated by Bishop Alex Vadakkumthala, Chairman of the CBCI Labor Commission. Auxiliary Bishop Dr. Antony Valunkal of the Varanappuzha diocese presided over the session. CBCI Labor Commission Secretary Fr. George Thomas Nirappukalayil, KLM State President Adv. Sherry J. Thomas, Varanappuzha Archdiocese President Biju Puthenpurackal, and others spoke at the event.
More than 2,000 labor representatives from 33 dioceses of Kerala participated in the celebratory events and meetings. Representing the Mavelikkara diocese, KLM Director Fr. Philip Jammathukal, Chethana Director Fr. Francis Plavarakunnel, KLM President Raju T, Secretary Daisy Thomas, Coordinator Shine Andrews, and 25 others participated.
In connection with the Golden Jubilee, a coupon draw was held, and the prize, an LED TV, was received by the representatives of Mavelikkara diocese from the Thiruvananthapuram Zone.
